Excused Absence:
Should Christian Kids Leave Public Schools?

God calls Christian parents to raise their kids for Him, loving Him with all their heart, soul, strength, and mind. But does this divine calling require a distinctively Christian education? Should Christian parents send their kids to public schools as "salt" and "light," or should they take their kids out of public schools to form distinctively Christian schools or home schools dedicated to holding forth Christ as Lord of all? Excused Absence is a powerful book that points Christian parents to a better way to educate their children.

"Excused Absence is stimulating reading, and parents . . . need to think through its counsel . . . We should repent for past sins and try, with God's grace, not to start a new sequence of wrongs. Doug Wilson teaches us to think through biblical ways of starting anew."
-- Marvin Olasky, editor of World (from the foreword)

"With all the gentility and tact of a desert prophet, Doug Wilson explains why Christan parents must say to their educational taskmasters, 'Let our children go.' This book will convict, and I pray stop, countless parents from rendering to Caesar the things that are God's--their children."
-- R.C. Sproul, Jr., editor of Tabletalk

"Why Not Public School?"

Comments: I have homeschooled, public schooled, and private schooled my children. I have seen the pros and cons of each and now that I'm teaching at a classical Christian school, was required to read this book. While I don't agree with all of the concepts set forth in this writing, I agree with the heart of it. This book will cause the reader to take a good hard look at education choices for your children and seek to find the reasons why.
